Menu for State Dinner Honoring Queen Elizabeth II
This menu was created for a State Dinner hosted by President Gerald R. Ford and First Lady Betty Ford in honor of Queen Elizabeth II of the United Kingdom and her husband, Prince Philip, Duke of Edinburgh, on July 7, 1976. The State Dinner was held in the Rose Garden, under a large white tent that had a floor and carpet installed at the suggestion of the first lady. Guests dined on lobster en bellevue, saddle of veal, a garden salad, and peach ice cream bombe. Portions of the dinner were broadcast live on television in the United States and Great Britain. The queen's visit to the United States occurred as part of the bicentennial celebration of the American Revolution.
This menu is part of a personal collection belonging to former White House Executive Chef Henry Haller. As executive chef from 1966-1987, Haller oversaw the menu for over 250 State Dinners at the White House.
